Using Padlet

Padlet is an online "wall" that can be used for many purposes. In this case, I uploaded a task for my FCE for them to practise Part 2 of their Speaking Exam. The idea is to upload their recordings, monitor themselves while rehearsing, listen to their own productions and their partners'.

Using Voice Thread

This is a very useful application that I used to work with an online presentation with my FCE group. The interesting thing about it is that you can add your voice to the slides of your presentation. You can also insert text, music and videos.
The topic I chose to create my presentation is "The Internet" as we have dealt with different types of media. Here it goes!

Using Storybird

I created this story on the online app Storybird. I used it with a Kids 4 group in order to talk about the topic of holidays and to revise the past simple tense. Have a look at it!

Using Voki

This is an online tool that can be used for many purposes. Basically, it is used to create an avatar (animal, person, etc) and record your voice on it. You can also type the text as well.
In my case, I used it with my Teens 3 students so that they could practise for their KET S Speaking Exam (Part 1). My avatar talks about the activities she does in her free time. Have a look at it.

Using Storyboardthat

This is a short comic strip I've created on Storyboardthat to work with the structures of giving suggestions and accepting and declining them. I chose a very simple situation in which two friends meet at a fast food bar and have to decide what to eat and later on what film they want to see. Afterwards, students will have to continue and finish this strip so that the characters that interact have to suggest, agree and disagree as well. Here it goes!

Using Google Presentations

In this post I will show you a presentation I created for my Teens 3 students in order to work with modal verbs and rules. The idea is to provide them with an example of a presentation about a sport, its rules, the necessary equipment needed to do it and an embedded video for them to watch about this sport. Afterwards, they are invited to choose a sport they like in groups and complete the presentation themselves. Hope I can use it next year. Here it goes:

Using Google Drawings

In this post I will share a listening comprehension I prepared for a Kids 2 group for them to practise for their "Starters" Exam. The audio was recorded on the online application "vocaroo". Here it goes!

Using Google Forms

This is a Google Form that I created for my Teens 3 students at Virgen del Rosario School. The idea is to use it at the end of this month for our final revision. It deals with the "Top Ten" vocabulary items we have dealt with throughout the year. It will be uploaded it to our Virtual Classroom. Have a look at it!

Using Google docs...

As the heading says, this post will deal with the use of Google docs.

First of all, what are Google docs? And, what are they used for?

Google docs are online documents, very similar to Word docs and its tools.
There are many uses we can give to these docs. However, I will briefly mention the most useful and relevant ways in which we, teachers of English, can apply Google docs in our (techie) classrooms.

We can mainly use them to:
  • Do collaborative writing online.
  • Present grammar and lexis.
  • Have an online board for students (for feedback).
  • Upload tasks, links and images to share with the whole class.
  • Allow students to share their written production with their teacher and peers.
  • Have digital notes on out lesson plans, for instance, or students' marks and progress as well.
Below, I will share with you the way I used Google docs with my FCE students, which proved to be really useful.
The idea was to refresh the topic of essay writing so, in class, they were able to edit all together at the same time the doc to brainstorm ideas. They were also able to watch a video and then, at home, (by creating a doc for each of my students) they had to write their own essays. Finally, they edited their peer essays by making some comments together with my help.
I must say that the experience was really rewarding because my students worked a lot, showed enthusiasm (on essay writing!) and all the effort that I had devoted to create the task was highly successful.

Hope you like it. Have a loook at it:

Hi everyone! I'm Vanesa Gugliotta, I'm thirty and I'm a teacher of English. I teach at ARCI, at a private institute and I have some private students as well.

I took up this ICT course because I feel that technology is part of our every day lives, however, we lack all the necessary skills and tools so as to make it part of our classrooms.

I opened this blog to showcase all my work from the course and at the same time learn how to use it correctly so that I can apply it with my students in a near future.
